League Classic jungle guide

The Season 3 jungle is smaller and harder

Clears are slower and more punishing than modern League — camps hit back, sustain is scarce, and you'll often finish your first clear low. That's why jungle items matter so much: Spirit of the Ancient Golem for tanks, Spirit of the Elder Lizard for AD, Spirit of the Spectral Wraith for AP, and Wriggle's Lantern for sustain plus a free ward. Buy one early and your clears stop being a liability.

Standard clear paths

Most Season 3 junglers start at their blue or red buff (ask your team for a leash) and clear toward the opposite buff, looking for a level-3 or level-6 gank. Smite the buffs and steal enemy camps when you can — counter-jungling was strong in Classic. Health management is everything: back when you're low rather than dying to a camp or an invade. For the exact route and starting side for all 13 Classic junglers, see our jungle routes guide.

Gank early, gank often

Because the jungle is slow to farm, the strongest junglers are the ones who make plays: Lee Sin and Jarvan IV snowball off early ganks, Amumu and Fiddlesticks win any fight with their level-6 ults, and Master Yi resets through uncoordinated teams. Track the enemy jungler, ward objectives, and translate an early lead into dragon and towers before the game slows down.

Objectives and the late game

Dragon is a team objective worth contesting from the first clear; Baron exists but is a bigger commitment in the slower Classic economy. As the game goes long, tanky junglers transition to peeling for carries while AD/AP junglers look for picks. Our jungle tier list ranks every Classic jungler, and each champion page lists its Season 3 clear-friendly build.
